Shimal, located a few kilometers east of the city, has some of the most spectacular archaeology in the country, and the Gulf. The Shimal tombs include a variety of designs from long cylindrical single chamber tombs to U-shaped collective tombs to variations on the Umm an Nar style.

Sheba Palace The ruins stand on top of a 200-metre hill ( see photo on the left) above the village of Shamal in Ras al Khaimah, covered in myth and mystery. "So many legends and stories are associated with this palace, with some people saying it is thousands of years old and others saying it is just a few hundreds years old," says Dr Hamad bin Seray, an associate professor at the department of history and archaeology at UAE University.
