The Ras Al Khaimah Investment and Development Office aims to attract one million tourists and add 2,000 rooms by 2018, reveals a senior official.

The CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAK TDA), Haitham Mattar, says the emirate is currently conducting consultations with several investors in the hotel sector to achieve this.

To target the young-people-mature market, TDA is considering a strategic study that divides this market into growing people, people who spend and adventure lovers. The study includes the generation of digital technology users, according to UAE-based Al Bayan.

Ras Al Khaimah is currently host to 400 high-level delegates from the UK travel and tourism sector, who are participating in the annual Institute of Travel & Tourism (ITT) conference, being held at the Waldorf Astoria.

The emirate is focusing on the Al Marjan Island development, an archipelago that will be home to twenty hotels, in addition to all the amenities of the Al Hamra development, which includes residential buildings, hotels, and shopping and golf facilities.

For the first time in its history, the emirate’s tourism revenues amounted to more than AED1 billion last year, with the number of overnight hotel guests in Ras Al Khaimah reaching 2.14 million nights, an increase of 72 per cent compared with 2013, making the emirate one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world.
